My Ph.D is in Math (Likelihood ratios for probability measures on function spaces) but worked in spacecraft systems engineering, mostly dynamics, not comm theory. For the really curious, a professional biography is at http://www.sie.arizona.edu/sysengr/INCOSE/john.html, slightly dated regarding current interests.

I've been on the fringes of computer science/programming since 1963 when I wrote my first Fortran II program, which never compiled. I then adopted what I later found to be the Unix philosophy and broke it up into about 10 or so small programs, and wrote an inverse for each as a way of verifying accuracy.

I had some other programming adventures but was shuffled into management before having access even to C, let alone lisp.

On my hobby and retirement time I've dabbled with C, C++, Python, Perl, Basic, Visual Basic, SQL, Prolog, Haskell, and Objective C. This is my second run at Scheme, prompted by it's availability on iPad. I have a personal project ongoing which will use Scheme for the Model, and Cocoa for the View on OS X.

My desktop computer is an iMac running OS X 10.6.7.
